Dear Colleagues, Please see the email below from Tiziana Rinaldi. Some of your students may be interested in participating. --------------------------------------------------------------- Dear ESOL Program Director and Teachers, My name is Tiziana Rinaldi and I produce and host an internet radio/podcast show on the personal experience of immigration called "Life in a New World: the Challenges of Becoming Cosmopolitan." The show, which can be currently found on http://www.Successtalk.com/Rinaldi, focuses on the existential, identity-shaping aspect of immigration and, by in large, on the real life and efforts of immigrants/expatriates in the States. I myself moved to New York in 1990, from my native Italy. Since some of the most daunting experiences of immigration -- and integration -- are deeply connected to the process of learning a new language (English in our case) I'd like to produce one, or two, shows on this topic. With that in mind, I'm looking for students willing to share, on web radio, this very personal journey. The interview will be in English, therefore the students need to be proficient enough to convey thoughts and emotions, and maybe offer specific examples of hope, success, hardship or determination, relating to this very particular kind of human experience. And since I'm always hunting for good, original stories, I will appreciate and welcome story pitches concerning any other aspects of your students' immigrant life. Some of them may have compelling stories of homesickness and missing family members left behind, some may have a poignant take on looking for a job, or housing, or coming to a new country and trying to create relationships/connections, etc... Please refer your story pitches to: (title your message as shown here) "Life in a New World -- Story Pitch" My e-mail address is: ViaAtalanta at aol.com Many, many, thanks to you for your time and attention, and to Mr. Ira Yankwitt -- Director of the NYC Regional Adult Education Network -- through whose support I was able to send you this message. I look forward to hearing from you!
