Hi Daphne, Sorry I'm so late chiming in and I hope this isn't redundant at this point. While it's not exactly what you asked for, here's a longitudinal study that you all may find of interest regarding dropouts: http://www.jff.org/Documents/MkingGoodProm.pdf In 2006, Jobs for the Future released the National Educational Longitudinal Study that tracked progress of 25,000 eighth graders over 12 years. I'd be interested to know what others think about the details in this study - what surprises you. Does anyone know of studies which were conducted with high school drop outs, asking them why they dropped out of school? Perhaps some of you have asked your learners this question and want to contribute what you have learned. What I have heard are issues related to gangs, pregnancy, illness, moving around a lot. I have never heard anyone specifically state anything about the educational system, even though most of the learners that I have interacted with read below a fifth grade level, and therefore did not benefit from the school system way before they dropped out. It would be interesting if anyone knows of any studies that focus on this type of issue. Daphne -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
