hi
I like using commercials in class. The group moveon.org had a contest for
a commercial to run during the superbowl. they posted the 26 finalists on
the internet at
http://www.bushin30seconds.org/finalists.html
because they are only 30 seconds long, they provide a good medium for
speaking practice. In the computer lab, i divide the class into small groups
and assign each group one commercial. they have to transcribe it, and report
on it to the class, including relating the images and action and explaining
the message. it also opens up a lot of discussion. In order to balance
things out , I played the state of the union address from President Bush
