JAMA WEB SITE ENTERS NEW PHASE
In a blow to public access to health information, the American
Medical Association is shutting off free access to the full-text
versions of its journals online, including the Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA). Starting in June, only AMA
members and paid subscribers will be able to access the journals
online. Free access to the journals has been provided on the Web
since September 1999, but the AMA claims it planned all along to
restrict access.
