I wanted people to see what we're doing in Florida regarding support for PD. thanks, Debra Dear Colleagues, I'm normally a "silent observer," reading postings and replies, gaining knowledge from all of you out in the Adult Ed arena. I'd like to respond to David's question on Supporting Staff and Professional Development. In Florida, there are regional teams, called "High Performance Teams" that receive small grants through our Department of Education. The purpose of these teams is to provide and support professional development training to colleagues in each of the 5 regions. If a participant is not paid for the day of training through their school district, the High Performance Team gives them a $50 stipend for not only attending the training, but also for completing a "Transfer of Learning" activity that arrives a few weeks after the training. There are other opportunities for professional development in our state, such as our wide variety of Web-Based Trainings (located at the Florida TechNet website ~ www.floridatechnet.org). However, participants in these trainings do not receive compensation, rather they receive inservice points that build towards their teaching certification. thanks for asking the question David, it's interesting to see how other states are rewarding staff for professional development, best, Debra L.
