George,
Register has to do with level of formality in the discourse, which
largely gets determined by positions of authority and power if I recall
correctly. So you'd use an informal "register" with family members but
perhaps a more formal "register" with your boss.

Thank you Beth,

This is exactly what I'm looking for. These materials are very rich,
especially this link:

Question: What's a "register" as in: "Pay attention to conventions of
oral
English communication, including grammar, word choice, register, pace,
and
gesture in order to minimize barriers to listener's comprehension."

Thanks,

George

Hello George,
You can find the Standards on-line in a variety of places including
http://eff.cls.utk.edu/fundamentals/16_standards.htm

What have been called the "Components of Performance" are the
components of
the standard, i.e. the bullets under the name of the standard. But you
may
have been thinking of the level indicators for the performance
continua for
the standards. These can be found from
http://eff.cls.utk.edu/assessment/arc_library.htm
