Dear Colleagues,

As Chair of the Adult Education Interest Section at TESOL I need your
help in getting the word out about a national survey of the working
conditions of adult ESL teachers that was posted on the TESOL listserv
last week. The purpose of this on-line survey is to learn more about the
working conditions of full-time and part-time ESOL teachers who work in
the adult basic education and literacy system and the programs in which
they work. The information will help TESOL as well as others in the
field to plan advocacy efforts and better understand where action needs
to be taken. TESOL has distributed the survey widely thorough their
network but we want to make sure all ESOL teachers, including those who
may not be TESOL members, have an opportunity to participate.

Please feel free to forward the message below to listserv’s in your
state and directly to colleagues who can support this effort.

Marilyn Gillespie

Dear___________________:

Are you an ESOL instructor in an adult education or adult
literacy program? If so, the TESOL Adult Education Interest
Section (AEIS) would like you to complete a brief online survey.
The purpose of this survey is to learn more about the working
conditions of full-time and part-time ESOL teachers who work in
the adult basic education and literacy system. ESOL teachers
whose work is funded by national, state, or local adult
education funds and those in noncredit community college and
college programs for students not ready to enter postsecondary
education meet the critieria for this survey. You do not need to be a
TESOL member to complete the survey.

This information will help the TESOL and our field to identify
areas where action needs to be taken and plan advocacy efforts
directed toward achieving equitable working conditions for teachers in
adult education.

The survey is available online at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=33385723995

The results of the survey will be shared at the 2005 TESOL
convention in San Antonio, Texas, in the United States, and will
also be posted on the electronic discussion lists used by adult
education ESOL teachers.

The survey is available online at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=33385723995
