WE LEARN invites you to participate in the 2nd  Annual WE LEARN 
(Net)Working Conference on Women and Literacy. The theme for  this 
year's conference is "Strengthening the Web."

Conference Dates:  Friday, March 11 & Saturday, March 12, 2005
Providence, RI / The Inn at  Brown University
Friday is especially focused on the participation of ABE  learners. We 
strongly encourage proposals from learners and ABE  teachers.

DEADLINE for Proposals: November 30, 2004

Proposals for presentations are invited  from learners, teachers, 
tutors, administrators, professional developers,  researchers, 
activists, and policymakers in adult basic education (ABE),  GED, ESOL, 
Family literacy, Health literacy, Citizenship, Prison literacy,  
Workplace literacy and other alternative educational programs that 
serve  women.  

The conference seeks Papers, Workshops, Poster Sessions,  Panels, 
Roundtables, Demonstrations, Art, and Readings about Promising  
Practices and Issues like:
--Effects of Welfare reform, Immigration  reform, War on Terrorism on 
women’s literacy
--Economic literacy and/or  women’s leadership development
--Violence and women’s  learning
--Spirituality and women’s literacy
--Health and Parenting  issues
--Civic engagement and social action
--Popular education and  participatory learning approaches
--Effects of social oppression on women  (race, ethnicity, gender, 
social class, sexuality, age, ability)
--Math,  Science, and/or Technology and women’s literacy
--Writing and the Arts in  women’s basic education
--Literacy and Literacies in the  world

Guidelines for  Submission:
1.       If selected, the  presenter(s) agree to register for the 
conference and provide handouts to  participants.
2.       Send a copy of the  following by November 30, 2004:

--Proposal Form (www.litwomen.org/we  learn.html)
--Abstract of Presentation (maximum of 100 words) that describes  goals 
and/or learning objectives, content, and how audience will  participate.

We have been receiving  some requests for information about the cost of 
the conference. More details  will be available in the next week, but 
here's a sneak preview:

accommodations  available

WE LEARN Membership Rate:     Two-day  $80.00 / One-day $45.00

Non-Membership Rate:    Two-day  $100.00 /     One-Day  $55.00         
ABE Student  Rate:    Two-Day $15.00 / One-Day  $10.00         
PRE-REGISTRATION  Discount 15%  /     (ONLY if registration postmarked by  
January 15)

We have a limited number of ABE student scholarships  & work exchange 
options for the conference.
