Colleagues,

Another idea for using the Citizen Member Role Map to focus on "teachable
moments" to encourage inquiry and more. The following is from the PEN Weekly
Newsblast for February 13, 2004

EDUCATORS FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (ESR)
ESR teaches young people and adults skills to help them become engaged
citizens in their schools and communities. Their newest website helps teachers take
advantage of "teachable moments" by giving them a fresh supply of classroom
readings and activities on issues in the news. The teaching ideas featured on
TeachableMoment.org encourage inquiry, dialogue and thoughtful reflection on
current issues. The website also includes an
array of teaching ideas to improve students' skills in conflict resolution
and intercultural understanding.
