Colleagues,

This posting contains three messages: one with information about new
federal side-by-side materials available in the CAAL web site, one
about two small articles on the community college role in adult
education and literacy, and one about a developing electronic mailing
list at CAAL.

(1) SIDE-BY-SIDES FOR TITLE I AND TITLE II. CAAL has just placed
two side-by-sides in its web site regarding Title I and Title II
federal reauthorization proposals. We offer these documents for
informational purposes and as a public service in partnership with
the National Coalition for Literacy of which we are a member. The
side-by-side for Title I (44 pages) was prepared by CLASP and the The
Workforce Alliance (January 2004). The side-by-side for Title II (63
pages) was prepared by Van Scoyoc Associates (December 2003) for the
American Library Association and Proliteracy Worldwide. (Note that a
third side-side is presently being prepared by NAEPDC, the National
Adult Education Professional Development Consortium. It will be
posted as soon as it is available. To get the publications, go to
www.caalusa.org, scroll down the middle column to the fifth item. It
will then be evident what to do to locate and download the two pdf
documents.

(2) TWO SHORT ESSAYS BY BYRON MCCLENNEY about the role of community
colleges in adult education and literacy. Dr. McClenney chairs CAALS
Community College Task Force Project and is on the CAAL Board of
Directors. Go to www.caalusa, scroll down the left column to the
second item under Community College Publications. That will lead you
to two downloadable pdf documents.

(3) On the e-mailing list matter, please note that CAAL is further
developing its electronic mailing list as a way to more fully and
directly inform interested persons throughout the adult education and
literacy field about our activities and publications. Anyone who
would like to be added to this e-mailing list can be, by sending an
e-mail request to bheitner@caalusa.org. In that e-mail, please
indicate your full name, title, and institutional affiliation and
address so that we will know with whom we are communicating.

Many thanks.
